Tasting Notes

93-94
Vinous Josh Raynolds - 01 Mar 14
Opaque purple. Spicy, highly perfumed aromas of cassis, blueberry, candied violet and smoky minerals. Densely packed, fresh and delineated, offering energetic flavors of black and blue fruits and floral pastilles. Shows a restrained sweetness on the finish, which features slow-building tannins and a strong echo of minerality. This wine was scheduled to be bottled about a week after I tasted it from its holding tank.

Grown on steep, sun-drenched slopes, these wines are known for their intensity and depth, featuring flavours of dark berries, black pepper, smoked meat, and earthy notes, with strong tannins and excellent ageing potential. Cornas focuses exclusively on 100% Syrah, with granite soils adding to its complexity. Top producers include Domaine Auguste Clape, Thierry Allemand, and Domaine Alain Voge, all celebrated for expressing Cornas's unique terroir.
